This 9999 FORD SERVICE STEERING GEAR recall affects the STEERING Manufactured by Ford Motor Company

Description Of Defect

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain replacement steering gears installed on model year 2011-2012 Explorers as service parts in September 2013 and January 2014. The affected gears may lock, preventing the driver from being able to steer the vehicle.

Conseqence Of Defect

The inability to steer the vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action

Ford will notify owners and dealers will replace the suspect steering gears with new steering gears, free of charge. The recall began on January 29, 2014. Customers may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 13S14.

Description Of Defect

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain electronic power assist steering (EPAS) gears, sold as replacement service parts for certain 2018-2023 Mustang, 2018-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition, and 2018-2021 Navigator vehicles. The secondary steering torque sensor may not be calibrated properly, which can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver's intentions.

Conseqence Of Defect

A steering wheel that turns unintentionally can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action

Dealers will update the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) software or provide a refund, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed August 23, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, Anticipated 4th Quarter 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S45.
