BMW will be asking a small number of car and SUV owners to return to a BMW dealer for several problems that could affect the safety of their vehicles. These defects include:
2015 X3 & 2015 X4: These vehicles were produced with a driver’s side exterior rear view mirror that does not meet the U.S. market requirements. Acura MDX & RLX Seat Belt Problem
A part dimension error in the seat belts of certain 2014-2015 Acura MDX and 2014 Acura RLX vehicles will have approximately 43,000 owners returning to their dealership to have the defect repaired. According to reports, the relationship between the tolerances within the seat belt re-tractor versus low temperatures could affect the operation of the belts. The driver and front passenger seat belts may not extend or retract in low temperatures, increasing the risk of injury during an accident. Continue reading
2015 Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon Incorrect Airbag Deployment
General Motors will be asking owners of certain 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon trucks to return to a dealer to repair a problem affecting the drivers airbag. The defect was discovered during routine diagnostic testing in which a GM technician found an incorrect diagnostic trouble code in the vehicle. An investigation discovered that the airbag connections were incorrectly manufactured, reversing the deployment sequence and timing of the driver airbag stages. Using publicly available data from the NHTSA, manufacturer early warning reports, and the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), The Safety Institute release a list of vehicles which they feel show early signs of potential problems. 2014-2015 Mazda6 Tire Monitoring Problem
Certain 2014–2015 Mazda6 vehicles may not meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards for tire pressure monitoring (TPMS). According to reports filed on the NHTSA website, if the pressure in all four tires gradually drop at the same time, the TPMS may not detect the drop and could fail to alert the driver. Used Vehicles With Recalls Continue To Be Sold
A Fresno, California man says he may have died after buying a used 2009 Dodge RAM with an open recall on it. The vehicle had undergone a 125 point inspection, but after owning it for approximately four months, the drive shaft separated from the rear axle while he was driving on Highway 41. According to the general sales manager of the dealership, the missed recall was a case of human error, but an Action News investigation shows that the problem is wide spread with dealerships across the Valley.
