Chevy Volt Software Glitch Stalls Engines
General Motors (GM) has announced a customer satisfaction campaign affecting approximately four thousand 2013 Chevrolet Volt electric cars. A software glitch in the delayed charging function could cause the vehicle to unexpectedly stall. Drivers will still have steering and brakes, but in order to restart the engine, they must stop the vehicle, turn it off, and wait five minutes before restarting.
According to GM spokeswoman, Michelle Malcho, the glitch only affects the small number of owners that have used the delayed charging option. All drivers are recommended to switch to immediate instead of delayed time charging until the problem can be fixed. GM has already sent letters by Federal Express explaining to customers that the repair requires the vehicle’s control system software to be re-flashed. The repair is expected to take less than an hour.
Infiniti JX35 Fuel Reading Inaccuracies
Nissan is warning drivers of certain 2013 Infiniti JX35 crossover utility vehicles that they could be left stranded due to a problem that could lead to fuel reading inaccuracies. According to Nissan, The fuel line transfer tube may have been miss-routed in the fuel tank during manufacturing. The float may be restricted from moving as fuel is consumed, giving the driver higher fuel reading than there actually is. Nissan will inspect and reroute the fuel transfer tube as necessary. Volvo Transmission Control Problem
Volvo has announced that they will be recalling certain 2011-2013 S80 sedans for a transmission software control problem. According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a software error may prevent the transmission from downshifting properly, and could result in decreased engine RPMs and a possible engine stall. Volvo will be notifying owners starting in the middle of July, and owners can bring their vehicles to their local dealership and have the software for the transmission control module upgraded. Chrysler And Ford Vehicles Investigated
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into certain Chrysler 200 vehicles after receiving 15 complaints alleging the engine stalled without warning. The vehicles investigated are the 2011 Chrysler 200 vehicles equipped with 3.6L V-6 engines. All complaints reported the vehicle stalling without warning during low speed decelerations. If the investigation leads to a recall, almost 90,000 automobiles could be involved.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also opened an investigation into certain 2011 Ford Explorer SUVs with Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS ), after receiving 15 complaints of power steering loss. Owners reported power steering warning messages as the failure occurred and in some cases the problem was corrected by turning off and restarting the vehicle. There have not been any reported accidents related to the problem, but if the investigation should lead to a recall, over 80,000 vehicles could be affected. Owners with concerns about their vehicle are asked to contact their Ford dealer.
Ferrari Crankshaft Manufacturing Error
Approximately one hundred 2011-2012 Ferrari 458 high performance sports cars will be recalled in the United States for a manufacturing problem that could lead to engine damage. The problem was found by Ferrari as they did a routine inspection of one of their fleet vehicles. According to the recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a programming error in the factory caused the crankshaft to be formed incorrectly. The error could lead to excessive engine vibration and eventually engine seizure. Ferrari will notify owners who will be given the option of having their engines repaired or replaced.
