Volvo Tire Pressure Monitoring Problem
Volvo will be asking drivers of certain 2013 Volvo S80 sedans and 2013 Volvo XC70 station wagons to bring in their vehicles for a problem that could lead to premature wear of the tires. A software error within the Central Electronic Module (CEM) may cause the system to fail to warn the driver that the air in their tires is low. Driving on low tires can result in overloading and overheating and could lead to a blowout. Owners receiving a notification will be asked to bring in their vehicles to have the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) reprogrammed, free of charge. For more information about the problem, contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
Toyo And Nitto Brand Tires Recalled
Toyo Tire Holdings of America has announced a safety recall for Toyo and Nitto brand tires produced using out of spec rubber. The tires were manufactured at the Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. plant in Sendai, Japan during a two week period in September of last year, and distributed to retailers across the United Stated. Because of the out of spec rubber, sections of the tread may become detached potentially causing loss of vehicle control. The recall will be issued to almost 5,000 tires but only about 600 tires are suspect of having the problem. The tires being recalled are:
- Toyo Versado CUV
- Toyo Versado LX II
- Toyo Open Country A/T
- Toyo Tourevo LS II
- Nitto Terra Grapplertires
The tires can be identified by the “Made in Japan” stamp and the numbers “3810” or “3910” at the end of the Department of Transportation (DOT) serial number, both located on the tire sidewall. Tires with the “Made in U.S.A” stamp on the sidewall are not being recalled.
A Consumer Relations staff is available at Toyo Tires and Nitto to answer questions such as how to identify and replace recalled tires. Consumers should call the hotline for the tire brand that they own: Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.: 800-442-8696 or Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc.: 888-529-8200 . Consumers can also visit the web site of the tire brand that they own: www.toyotires.com or www.nittotire.com.
Toyota Sienna Recall
Toyota will be recalling about 600,000 first and second generation 1998-2010 Sienna 2WD minivans for the spare tire carrier cable. The vehicles affected will most likely be ones that have been exposed to prolonged salty road conditions causing the cable to corrode and possibly fail.
Toyota is currently working to develop a remedy for this condition, but until this remedy is developed, customers will receive an interim notice instructing them to bring their vehicle to a dealership for a preliminary inspection.
