Our client was very happy when he purchased his 2016 Dodge Ram 1500.

He first had some concerns on February 6, 2017 when he tried putting gas from the nozzle and the filler tube came loose and dropped down. He also had a check engine light message on.

His next visit to the Dodge dealership was on August 23rd because his tailgate was opening randomly.

On December 4th he was back meeting with his service advisor as he noticed a red liquid leaking from the passenger side area of the engine.

On November 26, 2018 he brought his Ram 1500 in for numerous recalls. He also told them about a hard clunk as the vehicle was shifting between gears. The vehicle also exhibited hard shifting and the RPMs were revving really high.

He was back on January 10, 2019 because the vehicle was again exhibiting a hard clunk between gears. He was also noticing hard shifting and sometimes there was a delay when putting the vehicle into reverse. The dealership had the vehicle for 42 days.

At this point he was very frustrated and contacted our office and spoke with California Lemon Law attorney, Barry L. Edzant. Barry requested he send him some repair orders to review along with some other documents. He became a client shortly thereafter. A letter was sent to FCA, USA demanding that they buy back our client’s 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 under the California lemon law.

He did take the vehicle in again on May 9, 2019 as he was hearing a clunking noise coming from the engine compartment when shifting between 5th and 6th gear and while slowing down and taking off. He also complained the vehicle was having other problems with the gears.

Our firm successfully got a repurchase for our client for his defective Dodge Ram 1500. The buyback included the reimbursement of all payments made to date, the down payment, the registration, paying off the loan less a mileage deduction allowed under the California Lemon Law. Our client purchased a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and was very happy.

Her first visit to the Chevrolet dealership was on April 9, 2019 because the heater was blowing out luke warm air when she had the temperature up to 83-85 degrees. It also was having a rough idle in the morning.

The next visit was on August 12 due to the fact that the Tahoe had a knocking engine noise upon start up.

She was back again on October 7th because the cold idle was idling intermittently, and after the vehicle had warmed up, there was a loud knock noise coming from the engine. Also when the HVAC control was set to any temperature above 75 degrees, the air was hot.

She brought the vehicle to the dealership again on November 18th. The check engine light was on, the engine was running rough when at a complete stop and while using the AC and setting it to a low temp, the AC was blowing out cold air and then would become warm air.

The last visit was on January 27, 2020 and the check engine light was on again.

GMC decided to repurchase the 2018 Chevy Tahoe. The manufacturer reimbursed our client for the down payment, all payments made to date, paid off the loan, paid for the registration, less a mileage deduction allowed under the California Lemon Law. They also paid for all attorney fees. Our client was so excited about the outcome.

Our lemon law client was so happy about purchasing his 2018 Chevy Traverse. After a few months he starting taking his vehicle to the authorized Chevrolet dealership to have them make repairs on his vehicle.

The first visit was on May 16, 2018.  His complaint was that the third row middle seat belt would keep getting stuck.

The next visit in November he requested an alignment check which they performed.

Our client’s third visit was because the defrost control was coming apart.

A couple of weeks later he was having problems with both the rear and middle seat belt buckles.

His next visit was to request another alignment which the dealership completed.

He was back in on July 23. 2019 because he was seeing a shift to park message when he was in park and could not turn off the vehicle.

The next visit was to perform a recall on the brake pedal.

His Chevrolet Traverse was back in the shop a month later because the check engine light was on.  While there they also found the code P0018 and fixed it.

The last visit to the Chevrolet dealership was on February 14, 2020.  Our client stated that while driving over 60 mph, the RPM’s were revving high and it felt like it was losing power.  This happened while accelerating.  The check engine light kept going on and off.  He also complained that the shift to park message appeared when in park and he could not turn off the vehicle.  At this point our client was frustrated and felt that he had given General Motors enough chances to fix his vehicle and so he called our law office.  His spoke with attorney Barry L. Edzant and then emailed our office some documents for the attorney to review.

We sent a demand letter to General Motors Corporation demanding that they buy back his defective vehicle under the California Lemon Law.  They agreed to repurchase his vehicle, pay off his loan, reimburse him for any monthly payments made and his down payment less a mileage fee allowed under the California Lemon Law.  They also paid for his registration and paid for his attorney fees.  Our client was thrilled with the results.

Some 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2014-2018 RAM 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines may have been manufactured with crankshaft tone wheels that could experience magnetic signal material delamination.

The magnetic material attached to the tone wheel provides a signal to the crankshaft position sensor. If this material delaminates, the engine will lose its ability to synchronize injector pulses and cam timing. Loss of crankshaft position can result in an engine stall and the inability to restart. The problem can occur without prior warning.

The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will stop the engine from stalling by updating the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion by reading the camshaft position signal in the event that the crankshaft position signal is lost. If tone wheel failure occurs, the engine warning light will illuminate but the vehicle will not stall.

The recall to update the powertrain control module software is expected to begin in October. FCA’s number for this recall is W58 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-475.

Toyota will be contacting the owners of certain 2018 Toyota Camry cars regarding a problem affecting the engine and its cooling. The subject vehicles are equipped with 2.5L, 4 cylinder A25A-FKS engines.

According to the defect report, a manufacturing error has resulted in pistons being produced with a diameter larger than specified. Engines assembled with these pistons may cause the vehicle to run rough, create an abnormal sound, emit smoke from the exhaust, and/or illuminate an engine warning light. Drivers may notice a reduction in power and a stalling engine.

Toyota will ask owners to return to their dealers to have the production date codes of the pistons checked and replaced as necessary. Owners wanting more information can contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota’s number for this recall is J1M/J0M and the NHTSA campaign number is 18V-200.

The owners of certain Audi vehicles equipped with 2.0L TFSI engines, will be contacted by the manufacturer regarding a problem affecting the engine and its cooling system. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, the coolant pump could become blocked by debris from the cooling system. If this happens the pump could overheat and cause a fire.

The vehicles affected by this defect include:

Audi has developed software which will deactivate the power supply to the coolant pump, if the pump becomes blocked. The driver will be notified of the blockage through an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 19M1 and the NHTSA campaign number is 17V-002.

Ford will be contacting the owners of certain 2016 Ford Explorer and 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC vehicles equipped with 2.3L GTDI engines and block heaters, about a problem that could result in an engine fire. According to the defect report, the design of the block heater area, coupled with the engine installation angle and the length of the block heater element, could result in overheating. Drivers may notice engine coolant leaks, an illuminated check engine light, poor vehicle heater performance and /or heat damage to the electrical connector on the engine block heater. Subaru will be asking the owners of certain 2015-2016 WRX and Forester vehicles to return to their dealerships to repair a problem affecting the turbocharger air intake duct. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, the manufacturer used the wrong material for a portion of the duct. The difference in material could result in cracking in that area and an engine stall. The problem could result in rough engine idling, reduced engine power, and the “Check Engine Light” may illuminate. Continue reading
