General Motors will be asking the owners of certain Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles to return to their dealerships to repair an electrical problem affecting the power train system. The ignition systems in these vehicles may contain a damaged electronic park lock lever that could allow the ignition key to be removed when the transmission shows it is in “Park”. The vehicle could unexpectedly roll away, potentially causing an accident.
The vehicles affected by this problem include:
- 2013 Buick Encore
- 2011 Buick Regal
- 2013-2014, 2016-2017 Buick Verano
- 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze
- 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox
- 2013-2016 Chevrolet Malibu
- 2011-2013 GMC Terrain
Dealers will inspect the key cylinder lock housing and replace it as necessary. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick 1-800-521-7300, and GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM’s number for this recall is 50490 and 50491 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V-502.
