GM Seat Mounted Side Impact Airbags Could Rupture

General Motors will be asking a small number of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC owners to return to their dealership for a safety problem affecting the front seat mounted side impact airbags. During an accident necessitating the deployment of the side impact air bags, the inflator may not properly inflate and could rupture and throw metal fragments that could injure occupants. The vehicles affected by this problem include:

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side impact air bag modules. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM’s number for this recall is 01320 and the NHTSA campaign number is 15V-666.
