General Motors (GM) have decided that a defect related to vehicle safety exists in certain 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon trucks. The problem could result in longer brake pedal travel and stopping distances, increasing the risk of an accident.

According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the front brake calipers may have a manufacturing defect in which air pockets in the caliper body could occur. A continuous row of air pockets could result in small paths for brake fluid to leak from the caliper. If enough fluid is lost, the vehicle will display a brake system warning light on the instrument panel. Owners may find evidence of brake fluid on the ground by a front tire. These warning signs will begin to appear before the vehicle has been driven 1,500 miles.

Owners receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealers to have the front brake calipers inspected and replaced as necessary.
