Chrysler has announced that some 2013-2015 Ram C/V Tradesman vehicles could experience an inadvertent airbag deployment of the front passenger side curtain and/or seat airbag. The vehicles affected are equipped with two front bucket seats and no rear seating and were manufactured between July 25, 2012 to August 20, 2014.
According to the recall report, the safety defect is caused by a resonance at the rear quarter panel sensor caused by the lack of the rear speaker and HVAC, and can be aggravated by the installation of aftermarket roof racks. Road hazards such as potholes could cause an inadvertent airbag deployment which could injure an out of position seated occupant and increase the chance of a vehicle accident.
Chrysler will be notifying owners to return their vehicles to a Ram approved repair facility to have the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module software updated.
