Ford will be asking owners of certain Ford and Lincoln cars and SUV’s to return their vehicles to an approved repair facility for a problem that could result in drivers not sufficiently protected during an accident. Ford’s number for this recall is 14S21 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-597.
According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the affected vehicles may be equipped with a Restraint Control Module (RCM) that could experience an internal short circuit. Depending on the location of the short circuit, the deployable restrain system airbags and/or pretensioners may not work properly, as well as other systems that use data from the RCM, such as stability control. Drivers will be alerted of a problem by an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp.
The vehicles affected include:
- 2013-2014 Ford C-MAX
- 2013-2014 Ford Escape
- 2013-2014 Ford Fusion
- 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ
Because parts are not currently available, owners will be sent an interim notification with a second notification sent when parts become available. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
