A safety defect on certain 2014 Cadillac CTS sedans will have owners retuning their vehicles to a manufacturer approved repair facility to have them fixed. The problem was first noticed at the beginning of this year, after GM received warranty claims from customers who said they experienced reduced driver visibility due to an inoperative windshield wiper system.
According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the wiper system in these vehicles could become inoperative due to an electrical overstress. The condition is most prevalent while jump starting the vehicle with wipers active and restricted, such as in ice or snow. It may also be possible for an unstable voltage to be reproduce without an external jump start, although this condition was replicated only during testing. If the windshield wipers stop working, the driver would no longer be able to clear rain or snow from the windshield, reducing visibility and increasing the chance of an accident.
General Motors will be asking customers to return their vehicles to a dealer to have the front wiper module replaced. GM’s recall number is 14157 and the NHTSA campaign number is 14V-253. Owners wanting more information about the problem can contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006.
