Owners of certain Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty vehicles are still awaiting replacement parts to repair an airbag recall announced over a year ago. In November 2012, Chrysler sent letters to approximately 745,000 SUVs owners warning them of unexpected airbag deployment. According to complaints on the NHTSA website, the problem has resulted in incidents with reported injuries including burns, cuts, and bruises.
The lack of parts has frustrated many owners who have been driving with an illuminated airbag warning light, wondering if the system will unexpectedly deploy. The NHTSA has already received over 100 complaints from owners who are worried about being injured by an unexpected inflation.
According to a Chrysler spokesman Eric Mayne , none of the Grand Cherokees and less that one percent of Liberty vehicles have received repairs, because parts first had to be developed. He said Liberty repairs are already underway and parts for the Grand Cherokee are expected as early as next week.
