Chrysler will be recalling over two hundred thousand 2013 Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram minivans for a defect that could result in the airbags deploying from the wrong side in certain side impact collisions.
According to the recall report, the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) contains a software error in which the acceleration sensors are fooled into believing that the impact is on the opposite side of where it actually is. (A left side impact would deploy the right side airbags and vice versa). In the event of an accident, the wrong side airbags could deploy leaving the occupant with no airbag protection, increasing the risk of injury. The vehicles involved in this recall include:
- 2013 Chrysler Town And Country
- 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan
- 2013 Ram C/V Tradesman
Dealers will correct the problem by flashing the occupant restraint control module. Owners wanting more information can contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.
