The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is furthering an investigation into certain Pontiac G6 vehicles due to brake light problems. In 2009 General Motors (GM) issued a recall for certain 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 cars because the brake lights could intermittently illuminate when the brakes were not depressed and not illuminate when the brakes were depressed. There have been no reports of accidents related to the problem but 212 complaints of the same problem in 2005-2008 G6’s have already been received. According to the previous recall report, the problem is being caused by corrosion in one of the computers wiring connector. Additional problems can include the cruise control may not engage, and greater brake pedal force may be required to shift the vehicle out of park. If the investigation should lead to a recall, an additional 550,000 vehicles could be involved.
