The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have opened an investigation into certain BMW R-Series motorcycles after receiving almost 30 complaints of fuel leaks. According to reports, drivers noticed a strong fuel small while driving their motorcycles, and after arriving at their destination, found their left pant leg to be soaked in fuel. The problem is believed to be the result of cracks developing in the housing seals at the top of the fuel tank. The NHTSA’s investigation will determine potential severity and frequency of the alleged problem and will determine if a recall is necessary. A recall would affect approximately twenty four thousand 2005-2008 BMW R-Series motorbikes. The vehicles involved in the investigation include:
