A small number of 2020 Nissan Versa owners will be contacted by the manufacturer regarding an issue with the fuel system in their cars. The vehicles affected were manufactured between the the dates of September 06, 2019 – September 23, 2019.

According to the defect report, a manufacturing deviation may have resulted in fuel tanks with insufficient wall thickness in one area. The low wall thickness, in combination with the burr trimming process, may have resulted in a small hole in the tank seam. If the owner fills the tank over half full, the tank could leak and a strong fuel smell will come from the rear of the vehicle. If the fuel leak comes in contact with an ignition source, there is a possibility of a vehicle fire.

Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the fuel tank. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 20V112.

Nissan will be asking the owners of certain 2015-2019 Infiniti and Nissan vehicles, equipped with ADVICS ABS actuators, to return to their dealerships for a problem affecting the braking system. These vehicles were previously recalled under NHTSA campaign number 18V-601, but were not repaired. This new recall (19V-807) also expands the previous population. The affected models include:

  • 2017-2019 Infiniti QX60
  • 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima
  • 2015-2018 Nissan Murano
  • 2017-2019 Nissan Pathfinder

Due to manufacturing variation, the ABS actuators may contain an oil seal with inadequate sealing performance. The seal could prematurely wear and leak brake fluid. If this occurs, the ABS warning lamp will illuminate to warn the driver, but if the warning is ignored, the brake fluid leak could create an electrical short in the actuator circuit. In rare instances, this could lead to a fire.

Note: When brake fluid leaks onto the circuit board, the ABS warning lamp will remain illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine is started. If this occurs, owners should park their vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures and to not drive the vehicle.

Nissan will be contacting a small number of 2018 Versa Note owners because their vehicles could fail to meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for side impact protection. According to the defect report, some vehicles may be equipped with an Autoliv side curtain air bag inflator that was manufactured out of specification. A component within the aribag could detach during deployment potentially causing injury to vehicle occupants.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their Nissan dealership to have the side curtain air bags replaced. For more information about the problem owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 17V-837.

Nissan will be contacting the owners of certain 2012 Nissan Versa cars regarding a safety problem affecting the airbag system. In the subject vehicles, dissimilar metals were used in the side air bag sensor connectors. The combination could lead to oxidation on the pins and disabled communication to the satellite sensor to airbag control unit (ACU). The system is designed to enter a backup state when the signal is lost which will still allow the airbag to deploy, but lower threshold requirements may cause the curtain and seat mounted air bags to deploy unexpectedly if the door is slammed.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a new jumper harness and replace the side impact satellite sensors. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 17V-144.

Nissan will be asking owners of certain 2015-2016 Altima vehicles to return to their dealerships to correct a problem affecting the rear door locks. According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, Nissan was notified of an incident involving a rear door that unexpectedly opening while the vehicle was in motion. Further investigation found that during the rear door trim panel installation process, the latch lock cable may have been routed incorrectly. Under certain conditions, the cable may interfere with the window regulator causing the rear passenger door to unlatch and open when the window is lowered.

Nissan will notify owners and dealers will correct the rear door latch/lock cable routing. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 17V-040.

The owners of certain 2016 Nissan Titan Diesel XD trucks may experience problems with their fuel readings due to a manufacturing error affecting the fuel tank ventilation. During the assembly process, certain technicians may not have removed the temporary fuel tank breather tube cap and failed to affix the tube to the bed rail. As a result, the fuel tank may not receive proper ventilation and in rare instances may deform. This condition could result in the fuel gauge and the distance to empty meter displaying inaccurately.

Dealers will inspect the fuel tank breather tube, replacing the fuel tank, fuel sending unit, and/or fuel tank breather tube, as necessary. Owners wanting more information about the problem are asked to contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 16V-847.

Nissan will be asking the owners of certain Maxima and Murano vehicles to visit their dealerships to repair a problem affecting brakes. According to the defect report, these vehicles are equipped with ADVICS ABS actuators that may have been manufactured out of specification. The actuator seals may leak and result in an illuminated ABS warning lamp. If this warning is ignored, the leak could create an electrical short in the actuator circuit and a potential fire. Nissan will be contacting the owners of certain 2012-2013 Infiniti M35 hybrid vehicles about a software update affecting the propulsion system. These vehicles are equipped with a power train that warns the driver in the event of a cooling system malfunction. If the warning lamp is ignored and the vehicle continues to be operated, the power train control module logic will shut off the engine to prevent damage. If the engine unexpectedly stops while driving, the brake and steering systems remain operational, however, there is an increased risk of an accident. Continue reading
