Toyota will be contacting the owners of certain 2016 Avalon & Camry hybrids regarding a problem affecting their vehicles power-train. According to reports filed with the NHTSA, the drive shaft may have been assembled incorrectly and the tripod joint snap ring could become dislocated. If this happens, drivers may experience front end vibrations, an inoperative parking brake and a loss of propulsion while driving.

2017 Lexus ES350 Steering Wanders

The owners of certain 2017 Lexus ES350 sedans will be contacted by the manufacturer regarding a problem affecting the steering system. According to the defect report, a lock nut which secures the right hand side tie rod assembly to the steering gear assembly may have not been properly tightened during the assembly process. If the nut loosens drivers could experience nose from the steering or the vehicle may drift while driving. If the problem is not repaired, the tie rod could separate completely, resulting in loss of steering control.

Dealers will inspect the lock nut and if it is found loose, replace the lock nut, steering gear assembly, and tie rod assembly. 2016-2017 Toyota Tachoma Engine Stalls And Misfires

The owners of certain 2016-2017 Toyota Tachoma trucks, equipped with a six-cylinder engines, will be contacted by the manufacturer regarding a problem affecting the crank position sensor. According to the defect report, some crankshaft rotors may have been produced with an anti-corrosion coating containing a greater concentration of silica which increased the coating thickness. This may cause potential interference with the crank position sensor and could generate a static charge, causing the crank position sensor to malfunction. In this condition, the vehicle may display a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), misfire, or in some instances, stall.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their Toyota dealers to have th position sensor replaced with an improved design. 2016-2017 Toyota Tundra Damaged Bumper Brackets

On January 24 2017, Toyota filed a defect report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a problem affecting certain 2016-2017 Tundra vehicles. The affected trucks are equipped with resin rear step bumpers and reinforcement brackets that could crack if impacted at the corner of the bumper. If a person steps on the corner of the bumper that is damaged, a portion of it may break away, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the resin rear bumper reinforcement brackets with steel ones and replace the rear bumper tread. Toyota Avalon & Toyota Camry Air Bag May Be Incorrectly Installed

A small number of 2016 Toyota Avalon and 2017 Toyota Camry owners will be contacted by the manufacturer concerning a problem affecting their vehicles front passenger knee airbag. According to the defect report, the airbag module may have been installed with the incorrect fasteners. The mounting holes could become damaged and the fasteners could loosen over time. If this happens, airbag performance will be decreased, increasing the risk of injury during an accident.

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fasteners, and replace the instrument panel brace and body bracket, if necessary. 2011-2016 Toyota Sienna Sliding Door May Unexpectedly Open

A safety defect will have certain 2011-2016 Toyota Sienna owners returning to their dealership for repairs. The subject vehicles are equipped with power sliding doors which rely on certain inputs to open or close the door. There is a possibility that, under certain conditions which impede the opening of the door, such as when the door becomes frozen with ice, the sliding door motor could stall when the door is operated. If the motor stalls, high current in the door motor circuit could be generated, operating the fuse for the door motor. If the fuse is operated with the sliding door latch mechanism in an unlatched position, the door could open while driving.

Toyota RAV4 & Lexus HS250 Abrupt Change In Rear Wheel Alignment

Toyota will be asking the owners of certain 2006-2011 Toyota RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS 250 Hybrid vehicles to return to their dealership to repair a problem affecting the rear suspension system. During a rear wheel alignment, improperly tightened alignment nuts could result in damage to the threaded portion of the rear suspension arm assembly. Toyota Air Bags And Emissions Problems

Toyota will be contacting the owners of certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles about problems affecting airbags and the emissions control system.

Last Tuesday, Toyota announced that certain 2010-2012 Toyota Prius and Lexus CT200H cars could have air bag inflators with small cracks in the welds. The problem could lead to the separation of the inflator chambers and an increased risk of injury to occupants.

The automaker announced on Wednesday, that approximately 2.87 million cars may have a fault in the emissions control system. Over time the problem could lead to fuel leaks and an increased chance of a vehicle fire. Certain 2006-2015 Prius, Auris and Corolla models are affected. Continue reading →
